Leaders for Life
Dear Parent/Guardian:
The world is constantly changing. Preparing our students for a world we have never seen is an
awesome task. Amid all of the changes, there are timeless, universal principles that remain
constant and transcend all cultural and socio-economic boundaries. Parents, teachers, and
businesses all agree that there are specific skills our children need to be successful. They include
honesty, fairness, teamwork, problem solving, decision making, creativity, initiative,
self-confidence, planning, and goal setting skills.
We would like to introduce you to a program which will empower your child to become a true
leader. The program is called “Leaders for Life…Voyage to Greatness” and is part of Bradley
County Schools’ cutting edge leadership plan. Our goal is to find the unique gifts of each child
and provide positive encouragement while allowing students to develop their own leadership
skills. Here are the principles for sailing:
1. I am the captain of my ship. (Goal Setting)
2. I am in “Ship Shape”. (Mind, Body, Soul)
3. I chart my course. (Planning Strategies for Success)
4. I set sail. (Taking Action)
5. I am a good “crewmate”. (Teamwork, Friendship)
6. I lend a hand on deck. (Service, Citizenship, Patriotism)
7. I check my compass. (Staying on Course)
8. I persevere through life’s storms. (Perseverance, Character Development)
“Leaders for Life” is designed to help every child develop skills and character traits which will
empower them to be leaders throughout their lives. In Bradley County Schools, we are
convinced that children must experience greatness in order to aspire to it. Your child is
embarking on a wonderful voyage to greatness! We invite you to climb aboard the S.S. Leader
Ship and set sail with us! One of our goals is for every child to reach their personal best and find
a strength or gift to show leadership. Data notebooks will be used school-wide to promote
responsibility and ownership of learning. Thank you for your support and working as a team to
ensure success for your child. We are looking forward to a meaningful and exciting year full of
wonderful learning opportunities. Our mission is to provide a positive environment with an
academic focus where students will become leaders within their home, school, and
community. Our vision is to create a leadership environment that promotes lifelong
learners and responsible productive citizens who are accountable for their own success. We
are proud of our elementary school and we look forward to working with you. We encourage you
to take an active part in your child’s education. Charleston Elementary STEAM Academy is a
center of educational excellence and we are delighted to be able to serve your child. Due to
Covid-19 restrictions; large group meetings, conferences, festivals etc referred to in the
Handbook will be on a TBA schedule. Welcome Aboard!
